Performance Improvements (PI) Group Limited was founded in 1997 and has become a leading multi-disciplined engineering consultancy and engineering solutions provider within the international oil and gas industry. Our primary focus is to provide operating realism into the front end design of new oil and gas projects and help existing production and processing facilities achieve and sustain "Operational Excellence".

The company was initially formed to provide multi-discipline engineering expertise to help maximise the uptime, efficiency and performance of existing installations. We have experienced significant year on year growth and an established reputation for proving fit for purpose solutions, not just recommendations. PI’s engineers maximise the performance of installed equipment rather before first considering replacement and upgrades, very important when operating margins are tight.

We deliver operational excellence by focusing on People, Plant and Procedures.  The plant itself we consider in three areas, Power Generation, Gas Compression and the Main Processing Facilities (MPF) – sometimes referred to as the balance of plant.

Whilst the MPF contains the majority of equipment, such as separation and produced water handling facilities, we find that by providing reliable power generation and gas compression, MFP reliability and uptime is much easier to manage and improve.  For this reason, much or our specialist expertise is around measuring and improving the performance of gas turbines and gas compression.

In low oil price environments we deliver immediate tangible benefits by focusing on existing equipment and maximising oil produced by improving uptime, reducing pressure drops and ensuring that facilities are correctly optimised given the various daily operating constraints.  Production is frequently held back due to operating constraints such as gas compression or produced water handling capacity.  We sort out these issues quickly, often for zero CAPEX.

The company has developed into a Group structure and is now organised into two Divisions.  This enables us to focus on defining the problem and making recommendations in one team, and handing it across for solution implementation in the other.

We now work with most of the leading oil and gas operators in the UK and have a growing reputation overseas for delivering significant improvements in plant uptime, production throughput and emissions reduction. We have deliberately established world class expertise in the safe and efficient operation of oil and process facilities, process control, gas compressors and gas turbines. Within PI Group, we operate PIVOTTM, the PI Virtual Operations Team that provides remote operations support using web based surveillance techniques.

The Group holds ISO9001:2000, ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 accreditations under a consolidated Integrated Management System and is accredited to the Investor in People Standard.

Performance Improvements (PI) Ltd is commonly engaged to help improve the uptime and performance of oil and gas installations by improving process stability, debottlenecking and production optimisation.  We ensure that fluids won are correctly metered and allocated in accordance with agreed commercial agreements. We have strong expertise in process engineering, process control, asset integrity, reliability and flow measurement.  We have a full process studies capability, including flow assurance and dynamic modelling expertise.  We can develop user friendly operating procedures and provide competency based technical training across all aspects of facilities operation.  

PI Energy & Emissions Ltd is an international market leader in CO2 reduction and energy assessments having developed energy reduction protocols, carried out site energy assessments and implemented remedial work plans for oil, gas and power production sites all over the world. Products developed include web based compressor performance monitoring applications, the web based EnergyTracker monitoring tool and a CO2 life of field emissions forecasting tool. This latest tool assist in machinery selection decision making at the concept and front end definition stage of engineering design projects. We also have a portable gas turbine stack emissions testing capability using MCERTS certified technicians.

PI Control Technologies Ltd provides process control solutions to the onshore and offshore oil and gas industries.  We provide hands-on engineers and technician engineers to help troubleshoot equipment or help with the commissioning and start-up of new facilities. Our engineers are able to provide a turn-key retrofit control system from preparing the user requirement specification, project managing the selected OEM through to commissioning and handover.  We provide 24/7 systems support across a broad range of hardware and software platforms.

PI Gas Turbines Ltd works across a number of industries in the UK and overseas to improve the uptime, efficiency and performance of gas compressors and gas turbines.  Our specialist GT controls team design, install and commission retrofit control systems to combat obsolescence with our own proven solutions and provide 24/7 maintenance support. We have a growing installed base of retrofit control systems on generating and mechanical drive machines both onshore and offshore. PIGT provides turnkey control system solutions in full compliance of PM84 legislation and SIL requirements.

Our OEM independent rotating machinery engineers specialise in gas turbine overhaul management, boroscope inspections and defect investigations. We have developed a REFORM (Rotating Equipment Fleet Optimisation, Repair & Maintenance) methodology to identify and implement remedial work plans to address obsolescence and maintenance issues associated with both the gas turbine and all the ancillary equipment. We can assist in sourcing spares and challenging OEM overhaul workscopes.

PI TMC bv, based in Holland, works across a number of industries in the UK and overseas to improve the uptime, efficiency and performance of gas compressors and steam turbines.  We provide field service support and retrofit machinery control systems using our own standard solutions. Our engineers have significant experience of troubleshooting, surge testing and optimising compression control schemes working with a wide variety of proprietary and OEM developed control system packages. We have an experienced pseudo PT-10 compressor performance testing capability which takes into account the need to accurately measure performance whilst taking account of real world operational field conditions.
